Food Confession

Two days ago my wife and I went to buy groceries for the first time since "Suit Sexy." Going down the isles it dawned on me that I have a relationship with food. I am not one of those people who look at food as fuel or something just to get you through the day. No sir! Food for me is like that first kiss - the excitement never goes away. I just wish there were a methadone equivalent to my almost heroine like addiction to chocolate.

Anyway, since I was slapped in the face by my sweet tooth, I decided to go about grocery shopping a different way. I may not be able to dance with the hottie we all know as dark fudge, but I can still lounge and have a conversation with her slightly less attractive friend gluten-free products. In fact, my wife baked a petite-sized pan of gluten-free brownies, and I didn't feel like I was missing out. I couldn't tell the difference...

So, in the next couple of weeks, I plan on adding more gluten-free sweets and pastas to our grocery list. Who knows, this may be the start of lasting relationship. I am a lot of things, but the thing I am is very monogamous and loyal to my sweet tooth.

  1. Will,
I love the metaphor of chocolate as your love. I have had a lifetime love of food as well; being Italian, food was never in short supply in my house growing up. You have really hit on a key factor for success in changing your eating habits by finding a "good enough" substitute. And kudos to your wonderful wife for baking you those special brownies.
If you try to cut all goodies out, it will only be a matter of time before you are cheating with your long lost love. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see you in that suit!

  2. Joan,

I thought I could just cut it out. I did once, but after seeing all the delicious sweets starting talking to me, I knew I had find an alternative. Now, I just need to get my exercise stepped up. It is hot as Louisiana hot sauce here. It's even hot at 6pm.

  3. I'm right with you when it comes to a sweet tooth! It's true though, you can't cut them all out because it just go dry turkey the second you stray off the diet you go back into your old habits. This is much easier said than done, but I've seen a lot of progress in keeping an open palette and working on portion control. Being Italian too I have my own love for larger portions, but you have to train your stomach to realize, "Hey, you don't need to stuff yourself to the point you just feel plain bad after eating". Sure that goes for normal food, but it's true, I still suffer from sweet tooth syndrome so if someone comes up with a cure I'm all ears!
