Do What You Love

Recently I made a decision to not play hockey next year as my wife and I are pregnant with twins... a week later, after talking with my wife and reading #temt tweets, I came to my senses and realized the importance not only of physical fitness, but also doing what I love - I reversed my decision and am committed to playing hockey 1-2x week through the year. As a principal and soon to be father, I was concerned, much like all teachers, about time. My plan for next year is to book meetings with me to continue to do my workouts (because I never miss meetings) and also to continue to play hockey. Physical fitness and health are so important and we all know that if I let that go, the dominoes fall and lead to less motivation and more of a challenging time to get going once again.
I LOVE playing hockey... why would I give that up? There are many other less productive things that I can put on the side burner for a while but we always need to make time to do what we love, especially if this involves fitness.

  1. Great post Chris! I am glad you didn't give up the sport you love that gets you moving and having fun. How exciting for you and your wife: twins! They will certainly keep you both very active. Thanks so much for sharing and writing with us.

  2. Good point! After I hurt my back a few years ago, I realized that I don't have time to *not* work out. I need to keep my muscles strong and flexible so I don't end up practically bedridden for 3 months again. Basically all I did was go to work, come home and lie in bed watching TV because the pain had drained so much out of me. Being active is way more productive. Congrats on the twins! They need a healthy, happy daddy!

  3. You said it, Chris... if you have something you love to do, do it! And when your twins come, you are going to want something that's just for you... And so will your wife!

  4. I think it's a myth that wives want their husbands to give up everything they love and spend their time adoring them (wives/girlfriends). I'm sure your wife will appreciate the balance hockey brings to you!
